Amanda Seyfried has officially confirmed what many fans had already suspected—she was one of the actors who auditioned alongside Cynthia Erivo for Wicked. And in doing so, she’s seemingly identified herself as one of the unnamed performers Cynthia threw shade at in that now-infamous comment about the audition process.
In a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Amanda reflected on her experience trying out for Glinda, a role that ultimately went to Ariana Grande. Despite not landing the part, Amanda shared that she felt stronger in her vocal abilities than ever before during the auditions. “I’ve never felt that solid in my voice than I did at the auditions,” she said.
Fans first speculated about Amanda’s involvement after Cynthia made a pointed remark in a New York Times interview last year, stating: “Thank goodness, because it was not the two ladies I was auditioning with.” The comment sparked debate online, with some calling it “unprofessional” while others saw it as pure diva energy.
Though Amanda didn’t directly address Cynthia’s remark, she did acknowledge the significance of the moment. “I also got to sing with Cynthia, and that was a moment in itself,” she said.
As for the second mystery performer Cynthia was referring to? That question remains unanswered.
