Ariana Grande is mourning the death of her grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande, who passed away at age 99.

The pop star’s mother, Joan Grande, confirmed the news in a heartfelt message posted to Instagram Stories on June 17. “We are devastated to share that the beloved matriarch of our family has passed away,” the statement read. “Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed peacefully in her home and was surrounded by her family and loved ones for every moment of her last few weeks. We thank you for your love, support, and for respecting our privacy as we grieve and celebrate her beautiful, extraordinary life.”

Marjorie was a cherished figure in the Grande family, often accompanying Ariana to award shows and performances. Most recently, she was featured on “Ordinary Things,” the closing track of Ariana’s 2024 album Eternal Sunshine. Her spoken-word advice on love, recorded at age 98, earned her a spot on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the oldest artist ever to appear on the chart.

“Celebrating the one and only, most beautiful Nonna who has now made history,” Ariana wrote in a post at the time. “We love and thank you.”

Ariana’s brother, Frankie Grande, also shared a tribute online: “I love you endlessly, my sweet Nonna. I miss you more than words can hold. My heart is shattered, but I feel you watching over me.”

The bond between Ariana and her grandmother was well-documented over the years. In 2018, Nonna joined her on stage during a performance of “God Is a Woman,” and last year, Ariana flew to Boca Raton to watch Wicked with her at the family’s local theater, Cinemark 20.

Marjorie is survived by her children and grandchildren. Her husband, Frank Grande, passed away in 2014.
