Ariana Grande’s evolution from chart-topping pop star to a leading lady in Wicked is extraordinary. Taking on the role of Glinda in Universal’s two-part blockbuster adaptation, Grande describes it as “the honour of my life”.

In a recent interview on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Grande opened up about her emotional journey with the film, her preparation for the role, and what fans can expect next.

Grande’s connection to Wicked began long before she joined the cast. “I saw Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda on Broadway, and it was heaven”, she shared. Stepping into those sparkly shoes meant rigorous preparation, including months of vocal retraining to sing Glinda’s soprano parts and acting lessons that started a year before auditions.

“It’s surreal to think this dream I’ve had since childhood has become a reality,” Grande said. But the role came with its challenges. “Glinda isn’t just about the gowns and high notes. She’s someone who grows, who experiences loss, and learns to love in a deeper way.”

The upcoming sequel, Wicked For Good, slated for release on November 21, introduces a new song for Glinda, written by Stephen Schwartz. “It’s a pivotal moment that shows a side of Glinda we’ve never seen”, Grande revealed, hinting at a transformative scene that fans will undoubtedly cherish.

Grande also teased a deluxe edition of her latest album, Eternal Sunshine, promising new tracks. However, fans hoping for live performances might have to wait, as she’s currently prioritizing acting.

With Wicked positioning her for awards season buzz, Grande reflected on this transformative chapter. “This is more than I ever dreamed of”, she said.
