Beyoncé Breaks Silence with First On-Camera Interview in Over a Decade

The superstar opens up about her historic Grammy win, her daughters, and 25 years in music.

Beyoncé has always let her music do the talking, but after her historic Album of the Year win at the 2024 Grammys, she did something she hadn't done in over a decade—she spoke on camera in an interview.

In a rare conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Beyoncé took a moment to thank her 7-year-old daughter, Rumi Carter, for her contribution to Cowboy Carter. “Rumi, who’s on the album in Protector, our youngest daughter, she was watching [at home], and I forgot to thank her, so I get to thank her now. Thank you, Rumi,” she said.

She also reflected on the significance of winning Album of the Year, a moment made even more special by having her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on stage with her. “It’s very surreal, and it’s been 25 years of just working really hard and trying my best to keep growing, keep opening up doors,” Beyoncé said. “So I’m just very honoured. And I’m happy that my daughter got to see that.”

In a lighthearted moment, Beyoncé poked fun at Blue Ivy’s recent growth spurt, adding, “She’s taller than me. I don’t like it at all. But I’m so happy that she was here.”

The interview marks Beyoncé’s first spoken, on-camera interview since 2013. Though she’s done select magazine interviews over the years, she has largely maintained her privacy. In a past interview with GQ, she explained, “One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible… No amount of money is worth my peace.”

With Cowboy Carter setting new records and Beyoncé stepping back into the public eye in a way she hasn’t in years, this moment feels like the start of a new era for the icon.
