Pop sensation Chappell Roan has been vocal about setting firm boundaries with fans, and it’s had a lasting impact. During a recent appearance on Call Her Daddy, the Pink Pony Club singer admitted that many now hesitate to approach her in public.
"I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me," Roan said.
Her stance on fan interactions first made waves last summer when she publicly condemned what she described as "predatory behavior" disguised as superfandom. In a TikTok video and subsequent Instagram post, Roan urged fans to respect her personal space, calling out instances of harassment, stalking, and unwanted physical contact.
"I don't agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out—just because they're expressing admiration," she wrote at the time.
Roan acknowledges that her approach has sparked mixed reactions. While some fans support her right to privacy, others have accused her of being ungrateful. "They feel like it's me disrespecting them, that I owe it to them, and that—how dare I call it abuse?" she said. "But I'm not complaining about success. I'm just complaining about creepy behavior."
She also shared that her firm boundaries have had an unexpected benefit for her celebrity friends. "When they’re with me, they’re like, ‘It’s a force field around us. People don’t come up to me when I’m with you,’" she said.
Despite her skyrocketing fame following her 2024 Coachella breakout, Roan remains clear: admiration is welcome, but intrusive behavior is not.
