Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London court after being charged with grievous bodily harm stemming from an alleged nightclub assault in 2023.
The 36-year-old singer is accused of launching an “unprovoked attack” on a music producer using a tequila bottle at Tape, an exclusive nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. The incident reportedly occurred last year, but Brown was arrested in Salford last Thursday during his stay in the UK and had been in custody since.
Initially denied bail, the two-time Grammy winner was granted release on Wednesday by Southwark Crown Court under strict conditions. He must post a £5 million bail—£4 million paid immediately, with the remaining £1 million due within seven days. The court also ordered him to reside at a court-approved address, refrain from contacting the alleged victim, avoid the Tape nightclub, and surrender his passport whenever not on tour.
Brown, who did not attend the hearing, responded to the news on Instagram with a caption reading, "From the cage to the stage!"
His 11:11 Tour is scheduled to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam and will hit major European cities including Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20—right between shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Brown will appear alongside his co-defendant, 38-year-old US rapper HoodyBaby (real name Omololu Akinlolu), who is also facing charges related to the case.
