During a recent Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, frontman Chris Martin found himself at the center of unexpected drama after a playful moment on the kiss cam took a viral turn.
In the middle of the band’s Music of the Spheres World Tour set, Martin spotted a couple on the jumbotron and couldn’t resist engaging with them. “OK, now listen, are you two a couple? Are you two a legitimate couple?” he asked the crowd, prompting laughter from the audience. The couple didn’t respond immediately, and Martin continued with good-natured teasing, even asking if they spoke Spanish or understood English. Eventually, after the man gave a thumbs-up, Martin resumed the show with a performance of “Fix You.”

But earlier in the night, another couple shown on the screen sparked far more than laughter. Online users identified the pair as Andy Byron, CEO of AI company Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the company’s head of HR. The two were seen swaying with arms around each other before suddenly pulling away and hiding their faces after realizing they were on camera. Byron is reportedly married, while Cabot is divorced, and the clip quickly led to speculation about a possible affair.

Chris Martin addressed the awkwardness in real time: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” he quipped, before adding, “Oh s--t, I hope we didn’t do something bad.” The moment became a viral sensation, inspiring memes and widespread online commentary. Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, later appeared to deactivate her Facebook profile and remove her surname beforehand.
Astronomer has since spoken out, clarifying that a circulating statement claiming to be from the CEO in response to the incident was fake. “It is not a real statement,” the company told TMZ. NBC News has not been able to verify the identity of the couple on camera independently.
This isn’t the first time Chris Martin has interacted playfully with fans during a show. On another tour stop, the singer missed a cue in “A Sky Full of Stars,” apologizing mid-performance and laughing off the mistake. “I forgot the words. I forgot what to say,” Martin told the crowd. “It happens sometimes when you’re my age.”
