Christina Aguilera has a new role, and it’s not on stage. The pop superstar has partnered with LGBTQ+ dating app Grindr as its latest “wingwoman,” swapping out the platform’s famous “bloop” alert with her own unmistakable vocals.
Instead of the app’s standard notification, users can now hear the opening notes of Aguilera’s No. 1 hit “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)” whenever they receive a match. The collaboration arrives just in time for her headlining appearance at San Francisco’s Portola Music Festival on September 20, where she will perform alongside LCD Soundsystem, The Prodigy, Dom Dolla, Mau P, and others.
“Portola, Grindr and me? That’s a threesome I can get behind,” Aguilera said in a statement. “When that ‘Come On Over’ sound hits at the festival, or wherever you’re celebrating, I hope things get spicy!”
A playful video celebrating the partnership shows Aguilera preparing for her Portola performance as assistants rush around her. When she suddenly hears her own voice singing “come on over,” confusion quickly turns into chaos as each of her team members abandons the room to answer their Grindr notifications.
Aguilera’s latest collaboration underscores her longstanding connection to the LGBTQ+ community. Her 2002 anthem “Beautiful” is still celebrated as a rallying cry for queer empowerment, and in a 2017 open letter she credited her LGBTQ+ fans with inspiring her career resilience. “Please know that to me you all represent the daily driving voice that tells me to keep going, to triumph against all odds and to celebrate being unique,” she wrote.
