A Brooklyn priest who allowed Sabrina Carpenter to film her music video “Feather” in a local church has been accused of financial misconduct following an investigation prompted by the controversial shoot.
Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church reportedly mishandled $1.9 million in parish funds, including unauthorized transfers tied to figures associated with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is currently facing federal corruption charges. Church officials described the violations as a "pattern of serious misconduct", leading to Gigantiello’s removal from leadership roles.
The video, which featured Carpenter dancing near the altar in a black tutu and pastel coffins, drew criticism for its provocative content. The backlash led to an investigation uncovering broader financial mismanagement and the use of church funds for personal expenses.
In a separate revelation, secret recordings initiated by Gigantiello exposed offensive language by a temporary church administrator, resulting in his dismissal. The Brooklyn Diocese has since taken steps to safeguard parish operations and funds.
Carpenter has publicly joked about the incident during her New York City tour, further amplifying the scandal’s crossover into pop culture.
