JAY-Z made a surprise appearance during the final night of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter concert run in Paris, marking the first time the pair have performed live together since 2018.
Though the show’s country-inspired aesthetic doesn’t traditionally align with Jay’s repertoire, the Carters delivered a moment fans will remember for years. They opened their segment with a throwback to their 2003 classic “Crazy in Love,” followed by a sultry mash-up of “Drunk in Love” and “Partition.”
JAY-Z then took a solo moment to perform “N****s in Paris”, notably without his former collaborator Kanye West.
His inclusion of the Watch the Throne anthem arrives amid years of public tension with West, who recently expressed regret over his past behavior toward Jay. In a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), West admitted that his dreams were “about apologizing to JAY-Z,” acknowledging that he had crossed a line in the past.
Earlier this year, West posted disturbing and ableist comments about JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s children, Rumi and Sir, calling them “retarded” and further doubling down in subsequent posts. The messages were later deleted, though not before sparking intense backlash. Neither Beyoncé nor JAY-Z has publicly responded to West’s remarks.
Still, despite any background noise, the Paris performance stood on its own as a rare and powerful reunion from music’s most influential duo, one that reminded fans of the chemistry, history, and star power they continue to hold.
