JAY-Z’s ongoing legal battle with a woman who accused him of rape has taken another turn, as the accuser continues to push the court to protect her identity.
The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, filed a motion requesting to remain anonymous in the face of the rap icon’s defamation lawsuit against her and her attorney, Tony Buzbee. A psychiatrist’s report was included in her filing, stating that forcing disclosure of her identity could cause “catastrophic consequences” to her mental health, potentially destabilizing her recovery and severely worsening her condition.
While the public does not know her identity, JAY-Z and his legal team are fully aware of who she is.
The case stems from allegations the woman previously made, claiming that JAY-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her when she was 13. She later withdrew her lawsuit after inconsistencies in her account were brought to light. Following that withdrawal, JAY-Z filed his own lawsuit, accusing her and her attorney of defamation.
In court filings, the Roc Nation founder claimed he suffered significant financial fallout as a result of the allegations. His team asserts that he lost business contracts worth at least $20 million, was denied a $55 million credit line, and that Roc Nation itself was turned down for a $115 million bank loan.
Jane Doe and Buzbee have attempted to dismiss JAY-Z’s defamation case multiple times, but their motions have been unsuccessful. The dispute now centers on whether the court will allow the woman to remain anonymous as proceedings continue.
