Jennifer Lopez is facing a new legal challenge — and this time, it’s over pictures of herself.
The entertainer is being sued by celebrity photo agency Backgrid and photographer Edwin Blanco after she posted two images to Instagram and X earlier this year without permission. The photos, which show Lopez dressed in a white gown and faux fur coat at the Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair party in Los Angeles ahead of the Golden Globes, were reportedly taken outside Chateau Marmont and later used in her social media post captioned “GG Weekend Glamour.”
Both Backgrid and Blanco claim Lopez used the copyrighted images for promotional purposes, arguing that the post helped spotlight her outfit’s designers and boosted her brand presence. They’re each seeking up to $150,000 in damages per photo.
The lawsuits argue that Lopez's sharing of the images was “commercial in nature,” pointing to her history of leveraging event appearances to promote fashion partnerships. According to court documents, Lopez’s team was contacted and a payment agreement was discussed — but the deal remains unsigned.
This isn’t the first time Lopez has found herself in hot water over this issue. She’s previously faced similar lawsuits in 2019 and 2020. Other stars like Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, and Khloé Kardashian have also been targets of copyright claims for reposting paparazzi photos without proper licensing.
A response from Lopez’s representatives has yet to be issued.
