Jessie J is opening up about a recent health setback that landed her back in the hospital six weeks after undergoing breast cancer surgery.
The 37-year-old singer, who underwent a mastectomy in June following a breast cancer diagnosis, revealed via Instagram that she was hospitalized again after experiencing symptoms consistent with a blood clot in her lungs. “Not expected or planned,” she wrote. “I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD.”
Doctors ultimately ruled out a clot but discovered an infection and fluid in her lungs. While the exact cause remains unclear, Jessie explained that she continues to experience pain in her chest and difficulty breathing. Despite this, she chose to discharge herself from the hospital and continue treatment as an outpatient, citing her strong aversion to staying in hospitals.
“I finally got a diagnosis of what’s been going on,” she said, injecting humor into the update. “Apparently it’s called… Dramatic? I think that’s the spelling.”
In a more serious tone, she admitted, “My symptoms are the same and no idea what’s wrong yet, but my sarcasm and sense of humor are holding on.”
The singer also addressed how fans have been perceiving her during recovery. “I think people think that I’m hanging on by a thread,” she said, “which in some moments has felt that way — like two or three days ago when I woke up and couldn’t breathe.”
Still, Jessie remains optimistic. “I’m feeling a lot stronger,” she said. “People keep telling me like sit down, do less, and I’m like, well I am. This is resting for me.”
She ended her update with a promise: “I am resting guys, and I also am feeling better. I’m not feeling any worse, and I promise I shower.”
