Jessie J made an emotional final public appearance on June 15 at Capital’s Summertime Ball in London, days after revealing her breast cancer diagnosis.
The 37-year-old British singer-songwriter, known for hits like “Price Tag” and “Domino,” attended the music festival at Wembley Stadium, which she had previously announced would be her “last hurrah” before undergoing serious medical treatment. She plans to take a break from public life later this year to have a double mastectomy as part of her breast cancer treatment.
In a candid Instagram video posted on June 3, Jessie opened up about her diagnosis, sharing that she was found to have early-stage breast cancer. Despite her typically humorous tone, referring to the surgery as “a very dramatic way to get a boob job”, she became visibly emotional while speaking about others going through similar or worse health challenges.
“I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early,” she said in the video. “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much, similar and worse. That’s the bit that kills me.”
The “Bang Bang” hitmaker emphasized that she wanted to share her story openly in hopes of connecting with others and encouraging support for those affected.
Jessie also shared a lighthearted update with fans: “I’m getting to keep my nipples… I will come back with massive tits and more music.”
She is the mother of a 2-year-old son named Sky, who she says will be her biggest reason to stay strong through the process.
This year’s Capital Summertime Ball featured a lineup including Mariah Carey, Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff, Benson Boone, Rita Ora, and more, making Jessie’s appearance even more poignant, surrounded by fellow artists and fans.
