Michelle Williams is finally speaking out about her headline-making reunion with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, and the hidden anxiety that nearly overshadowed the moment.
During a recent solo episode of her podcast Checking In w/ Record Breakers, Williams shared that she was deeply afraid of falling on stage during the Destiny’s Child reunion at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour stop in Las Vegas. The fear, she said, stems from a televised fall she took during a 2004 appearance on 106 & Park, while promoting the group’s final studio album.

“I still have trauma from falling on 106 & Park,” Williams said. “Every time I perform with the girls, it’s in my head: ‘Do not fall, do not fall, do not fall.’”
Determined to prevent history from repeating itself, Williams even asked longtime Destiny’s Child stylist Ty Hunter to alter her wardrobe. “We got to cut these fringes off because we do not want Michelle to fall,” she recalled him saying. Though embarrassed by how public the request became, she admitted the extra care was needed. “Steps do frighten me now,” she confessed.
The reunion performance, which replaced a planned ballroom dance segment, took place during Beyoncé’s closing night at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium on July 26. The crowd erupted when “Independent Woman” began playing and Beyoncé emerged alongside Rowland and Williams in a Charlie’s Angels-style silhouette.
The trio performed “Lose My Breath,” “Energy,” and “Bootylicious,” marking their first onstage appearance together since Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella show.
Despite her nerves, Williams said the moment felt joyful and natural. “We turned into little girls again… Beyoncé was like, ‘Let’s just have fun.’ And we did,” she said. “But when you come from Destiny’s Child, and you see the level of excellence Beyoncé performs at, you step it up.”
