Selena Gomez has found herself at the center of social media backlash after a controversial moment at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter concert in New Jersey over the weekend.

While attending the May 25th show at MetLife Stadium—part of Beyoncé’s star-studded tour—Gomez posted several Instagram Stories from a private suite, including one that showed she was watching the New York Knicks face off against the Indiana Pacers on her phone. “Still got my eye on the game,” she wrote.

The post quickly stirred debate online. Some critics accused the Only Murders in the Building star of seeming disengaged from the performance. “Selena will never know an ounce of the happiness I felt in the cheap seats,” one Reddit commenter wrote, while another claimed, “Only time I watched something on my phone at a show was the one time I didn’t want to be there.”

Others, however, came to Gomez’s defense, citing the Knicks' historic playoff run as a valid distraction. “Plenty of my friends at the show had the game on their phones,” one fan shared. Another added, “It’s the playoffs—this is supposed to be a problem?”

Gomez has not responded to the commentary, but her post has reopened conversations around digital distractions at live events, celebrity privilege, and just how much multitasking is too much.

The Knicks went on to beat the Pacers 106–100 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour continues to draw A-list names, with appearances in recent weeks from Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Gayle King, and Oprah Winfrey.
