Shakira’s Tour Sparks Debate Over Beyoncé Comparisons

Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has barely kicked off, and it’s already making waves—though not for the reasons she might have hoped. The Colombian superstar’s latest stage production has drawn comparisons to Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, igniting debate among fans about whether Shakira was merely inspired by Queen Bey or took things a step further.

The discussion started after concert footage from Shakira’s tour opener in Rio de Janeiro began circulating online. Fans pointed out the striking similarities between elements of both shows, including stage design, lighting, typography, and even costume choices—some of which were designed by Versace, a brand that also worked closely with Beyoncé’s team during her 2023 tour.

One viral post summed up the debate: “Shakira went to the Renaissance tour and left with a PhD in Beyoncéology.” Others were more critical, accusing Shakira of outright copying, with comments like “She really said copy & paste” and “That’s actually called plagiarism, unfortunately.”

The controversy was further fueled by Shakira’s own past comments. In a 2023 interview with Billboard, she admitted to taking “notes” while attending the Renaissance Tour. While some see this as evidence of direct influence, others argue that taking inspiration is natural in the music industry.

Shakira and Beyoncé have a long history, having collaborated on the 2006 hit Beautiful Liar, and many fans believe there’s no bad blood between them. Some defended Shakira, noting that both artists have influenced each other over the years.

Despite the online chatter, Shakira’s tour is off to a strong start, with performances scheduled through June 30, concluding in San Francisco. And as for the comparisons? The debate is still going strong.
