Taylor Swift’s next chapter is already causing ripples beyond her devoted fanbase. While the superstar thrilled millions of Swifties with the announcement of her 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl, set for release on October 3, RadarOnline.com reports that two pop culture icons are less than pleased with the project’s theme and imagery.
According to RadarOnline.com, Britney Spears has reportedly accused Swift of borrowing heavily from her Dream Within a Dream tour wardrobe. The rhinestone bra, fringed armbands, and bejeweled nude thong Swift sports in her new album cover art are said to resemble Spears’ 2001 stage costume, originally designed by Bob Mackie. Sources claim Spears even believes she deserves credit in Swift’s liner notes.
RadarOnline.com also reports that Pamela Anderson sees parallels between The Life of a Showgirl and her 2024 film The Last Showgirl. Insiders close to Anderson say she feels Swift’s visuals borrow from her movie’s “vintage Vegas” aesthetic, color palette, and mood. While neither Spears nor Anderson are reportedly angry at the inspiration itself, both are said to believe recognition would be “the classy thing to do.”
Swift introduced the project last week on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, describing it as an exploration of her “inner life” during the Eras Tour. The album reunites her with producers Max Martin and Shellback, the duo behind earlier hits like Blank Space and Delicate.
RadarOnline.com emphasizes that the pushback isn’t about rejecting homage but about the importance of crediting sources of inspiration. As one industry insider put it: “In this business, influence and homage walk a fine line. Britney and Pamela just want that line to include recognition for their contributions.”
