The results are in, and Billboard has named The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” as the number-one song of the 21st century. Released in February 2020, the hit not only dominated charts during the pandemic but also secured its place in music history with a jaw-dropping 86 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40 and a record-breaking 57 weeks in the top 10.
Trailing close behind is Bruno Mars’s “Uptown Funk” at number two. The funky anthem has cemented its legacy as one of the most beloved tracks of the century, but “Blinding Lights” undeniably stole the crown.
Other chart-toppers making the top ten include “Stay” by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber (3), LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” (4), and The Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” (5). Rounding out the list are Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” (6), Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” (7), “Closer” by The Chainsmokers and Halsey (8), Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” (9), and Mariah Carey’s timeless ballad “We Belong Together” (10).
Billboard’s list highlights the undeniable influence of these tracks, but one thing is clear: “Blinding Lights” has officially illuminated its place at the top.
