Tina Knowles isn’t letting criticism of her daughter, Beyoncé, slide without a word. After the superstar’s A Cowboy Carter Christmas halftime show aired during the Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens game on Christmas Day, Beyoncé’s mother took to Instagram to call out naysayers.
Reposting a fan’s message that emphasized how critics always find something negative to say, Tina added her own thoughts: “It’s mind-boggling to me that people spend their Christmas watching someone they claim to dislike, just to criticize them later. Clearly, they’re obsessed!”. She ended her fiery caption with a nod to her daughter’s resilience: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
The halftime performance was a monumental moment for Beyoncé, marking her debut on Netflix with the NFL’s first-ever streamed game. Featuring songs from her country-inspired album Cowboy Carter, the 13-minute set peaked with over 27 million U.S. viewers. It’s now available on Netflix as a standalone special, Beyoncé Bowl.
Beyoncé brought out guests Shaboozey, Post Malone, and her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter for the performance. “It’s only right that we do ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ for the first time here in Houston”, she told the crowd.
However, the celebration was tempered by ongoing scrutiny of her husband, Jay-Z, who was absent from the event. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell recently addressed the league’s partnership with Roc Nation in light of the civil allegations against Jay-Z, reaffirming the NFL’s relationship with the company.
