President Donald Trump has escalated his attacks on Bruce Springsteen and other major celebrities, now suggesting — without evidence — that their endorsements of Kamala Harris during the 2024 election were illegal campaign contributions.
In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump alleged that Harris may have paid Springsteen for his “poor performance” during her campaign, calling the endorsement a “MAJOR AND ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION.” He broadened the accusation to include Beyoncé and Oprah, suggesting their support may also have been financially motivated. Bono, who did not publicly endorse Harris but received a Medal of Freedom from President Biden, was also named in the post.
Trump went further by saying he would “call for a major investigation into this matter,” accusing Harris of masking payments as entertainment expenses to “artificially build up her sparse crowds.” He referred to the endorsements as “NOT LEGAL,” and labelled the stars involved as “unpatriotic” and “CORRUPT.”
This marks the second time in a week that Trump has taken aim at Bruce Springsteen, whom he recently called “Highly Overrated” and “not a talented guy.” Springsteen, meanwhile, has continued to criticize the Trump administration during his European tour, describing it as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous” during a concert in London.
Though Trump did not mention Taylor Swift in his Monday post, he took a swipe at her last week, declaring on Truth Social: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” He also previously mocked her Super Bowl appearance in February, claiming she was “booed out of the stadium.”
While Trump’s claims of financial misconduct in celebrity endorsements remain unsubstantiated, they signal a growing hostility toward high-profile entertainers who have been vocal in their political leanings.
