Katy Perry’s live performances are known for their elaborate production. Still, her recent show in Adelaide, Australia, took an unexpected turn when one of those high-concept visuals briefly became a safety concern.

As part of her current tour, Perry performs a segment in which she rides a large metal sphere suspended above the crowd. However, during Sunday night’s show, the mechanism reportedly malfunctioned, leaving the pop star temporarily stranded mid-air.

According to TMZ, Perry was forced to hold onto the sides of the sphere to avoid falling while crew members worked to bring her safely back to the stage. Despite the scare, she resumed the performance without further issue and completed the concert.

This incident follows a growing list of on-stage technical malfunctions affecting major pop tours this year. Just days ago, Beyoncé had to pause her Houston show due to a glitch with her floating vehicle prop.

The concert hiccup also comes amid personal news: Perry and longtime partner Orlando Bloom have reportedly ended their nine-year relationship. The two share a daughter. While neither has issued a formal statement, Perry posted a slow-motion video of herself running and laughing on the beach over the weekend, her first social media update since the reports.

Despite the setbacks, Perry remains in high spirits, both on and off the stage.
